داخل حرم الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت، يوجد برنامج تعليمي خاص يستهدف الطلاب ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة الذين يعانون من حالات عقلية مختلفة مثل التوحد، ومتلازمة داون، والتأخر العقلي. البرنامج بدأ في عام 2014 من رغبة أم في أن تجرب ابنتها حياة الجامعة وأن تتأهل لسوق العمل. حصل البرنامج على ترخيص من مؤسسة أكاديمية أمريكية وتعاون مع الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت في عام 2016

يقدم البرنامج لهؤلاء الطلاب الفرصة للاندماج الكامل في حياة الجامعة، حيث يتفاعلون مع أقرانهم الأصحاء، ويحضرون المحاضرات، ويعملون في مكتبة الجامعة وكافيتريتها، ويختبرون جميع جوانب الحياة الجامعية. أشارت مديرة البرنامج، منى أغى مكتبي، إلى الفخر واحترام الذات الذي يشعر به الطلاب من كونهم جزءًا من الجامعة، مما يعزز ثقتهم بأنفسهم ويساهم في اندماجهم الاجتماعي
